Obituary for Clarence Wanta

Clarence L. Wanta age 93, formerly of Stevens Point passed away November 26, 2017 in Henderson Nevada.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Clarence will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Holy Spirit Parish. Rev. Thomas Lindner will officiate. Friends and Family will gather to share memories from 8:30 AM until the time of services at the church. The Knights of Columbus will lead a rosary for Clarence at 9:00 AM at Holy Spirit Church. Burial with full military honors will be at the Guardian Angel Cemetery after the Mass.
Clarence was born November 3, 1924 in Rosholt, to the late Joseph and Johanna (Platta) Wanta. He was the sixth of eleven children (all deceased). He attended P. J. Jacobs High School.
After High School he worked at Whiting-Plover Country Club as a groundskeeper and the following year he managed the club’s retail shop.
In 1945 Clarence enlisted in the United States Army Air Force and was honorably discharged in October, 1947 from Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, CO.
Clarence married Rosella M. Zurawski September 10, 1951 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. In 1952, he was hospitalized at the V.A. hospital in Madison. Upon completion he worked for the Erickson Oil Company as a bookkeeper. In 1960 he and Rose purchased Coopers Corner Bar and operated it until 1973. They owned their own stock car and enjoyed participating in the races.
In 1978 Clarence, Rose, and daughters Celeste, Shelley moved to Arizona for health. Later they moved to Nevada where he and Rose enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and Packer football, with occasional visits to the casinos and going out to dinner.
Clarence was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Knights of Columbus. He also was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, and American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Rose, 2 daughters; Celeste Wanta, Shelley Wanta (Jim Geary) and Grandson Colin Filtz.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
