Obituary for
Ann Marie Burant
Ann Marie (O’Keefe) Burant, age 58, of Stevens Point passed away Tuesday evening, March 6, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. Ann fought a two-year long battle with ALS.
She was born December 18, 1959 in Stevens Point. The daughter of James and Elizabeth (Gruetzmacher) O’Keefe, Ann graduated from Stevens Point Area Senior High in 1978. She married Michael Burant May 31, 1985. Ann had two children, Ryan and Brittany.
Ann’s true passion in life was her family. She was very involved with her children and grandchildren. She attended almost every activity and sporting event, for both generations, no matter the distance! Ann was the ultimate fan of Brittany’s soccer and Ryan’s football careers. Ann enjoyed tending her many flower gardens throughout the spring, summer, and fall as well as watching Packer games in the winter. She lived on a beautiful property in the country where family was always close by.
When Ann accepted a task, she made certain it was completed to the best that it could be. Ann was an active member of each community she resided. This can be seen in her work with Karl Malone and the Utah Jazz, various Chamber of Commerce activities in each city she worked, Portage County Youth Soccer and the inception of the soccer complex in 2003. She also hosted the March of Dimes March for Babies walk in Stevens Point. Ann was a member of the Sacred Heart Rosary Society and a proud supporter of local Knights of Columbus activities. She participated in numerous walking marathons with friends and family including Walk Wisconsin, Rock ‘n’ Roll Nashville Marathon, March of Dimes, and many others.
Ann had an 18 year long career with Shopko. Throughout her growth with the company she was an Area Manager in Janesville, WI and Assistant Manager in both Spokane, WA and Taylorsville, UT. She was a Store Manager in West Jordan, UT and in Sandy, UT. In 1994 Ann came back home to Wisconsin to open a Shopko store in Delavan. In 2000 Ann and family returned to the Stevens Point area and shortly after began managing the Stevens Point Kmart. After 15 years of unprecedented success at Kmart she retired due to her illness.
Ann is survived by her husband Michael Burant; son Ryan (Beth) Wolosek, Stevens Point; and daughter Brittany (Earl) Vogt, Fremont. She is also survived by sisters Kathy Ross, Boynton Beach, FL and Mary (Greg) Flees, Stevens Point; brothers John O’Keefe, Madison; Aaron (Lonna) O’Keefe; Matthew O’Keefe; Joshua (Caroline) O’Keefe and brother-in-law, Michael Mrozek, all of Stevens Point. Ann has three grandchildren: James Faber, and Logan and Carter Wolosek. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elizabeth (Gruetzmacher) O’Keefe, sister Kristina Mrozek, brother Daniel O’Keefe, brother-in-law Ron Ross, and nephew Randy Ross.
Friends and family will gather to share memories from 4:00-8:00 PM on Monday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point, WI.
