Obituary for
Eleanor Joyce Choudoir
Eleanor Joyce (Graf) Choudoir, 92, of Plover, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully Monday
afternoon, August 8, 2016, at her home at The Lodge at Whispering Pines.
Joyce, as she preferred to be called, was born on August 19, 1923, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin,
the daughter of Ray and Betty Graf. One of three children, she attended schools there before her
family moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where she graduated from Marshall High School. She met
the love of her life - Warren Choudoir, of Appleton - during her high school years in Fond du
Lac. They continued their courtship from afar for some time and eventually were married on
May 2, 1942, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Appleton.
Warren started his career as a “telephone transmission man” for American Telephone and
Telegraph (AT&T) before enlisting in the Army. Joyce and Warren lived in Florida during
Warren’s basic training, before Joyce moved back home with her parents in St. Paul while
Warren was stationed abroad during World War II.
Joyce was a devoted homemaker her entire married life, raising six children while Warren
advanced his 30-plus year career with AT&T that took their family to Appleton and Whitefish
Bay before moving to Stevens Point in 1966. Warren became a very visible and active volunteer
in numerous community, church and school projects, while Joyce watched over their home and
family in her quiet, determined manner.
She thoroughly enjoyed those quiet moments with her coffee, her cat “Callie”, crossword
puzzles, and her favorite daytime TV shows, but she also cherished the times she spent with her
family, playing cards and seeing her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren during
backyard cookouts and numerous other family gatherings over the years.
Joyce is survived by her brother, John (Ethel) Graf, St. Paul, MN; two sons and three daughters –
Richard (Linda) Choudoir, Columbus, WI; Cindy Feldner, Plover, WI; Wendy (Steve) Menzel,
Stevens Point, WI; Robert (Mary Jo) Choudoir, Polonia, WI; Mimi (Barry) Gardner, New
London, WI; eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Warren (1920-1991); one sister, Kathleen (Frank) Johnson; and a
daughter, Cheri (1949-2014).
Joyce’s family would like to thank the caring staffs of The Lodge at Whispering Pines and
Hospice, all of whom treated Joyce like family. In lieu of a public visitation or funeral service, a
private gathering of family and close friends will be held at a later date to celebrate Joyce’s life.
