Harold L Murphy
Harold “Murph” Lavern Murphy passed away, January 1, 2017.
Murph was born to Joseph Lavern and Elsie (Mayne) Murphy, on November 2, 1932 in Boscobel, WI. Murph attended rural schools and graduated from Boscobel High School with the class of 1950. He and Mary Lenz were married in 1952. He joined the US Navy for a 4 year enlistment and they began their Navy service which took them to Tennessee, California, and the territory of Hawaii where their daughter Susan was born.
Murph joined ATT Long Lines after he was honorably discharged and he began a 33 year career in Madison, Milwaukee, and Stevens Point. He retired in 1990.
Murph was a well read and self-educated man. A generous man and an enthusiastic volunteer in Special Olympics, EAA, and Telephone Pioneer projects.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary, his niece Dianna DeJarnette, many cousins and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elsie Murphy, his daughter Susan, his in laws, Sheridan and Bernice (Graf) Lenz, sister in law Dr. Judith Lenz and brother in law Frank (Sam) Goeltz, in addition to many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Murph's family would like to thank Ministry St. Michael's hospice for their compassion while caring for Murph.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Portage County Humane Society or Operation Bootstrap.
No formal services will be held at Harold’s request. Cremation with private internment at a later date. A Celebration of his life will also be scheduled at a later date.
